Santana
Since no tandem met his requirements, Bill McCready founded the tandem manufacturer Santana in California, USA in 1976. To this day, Santana tandems stand for a timeless, sleek design with high quality standards and decades of riding fun. Santana specialized in tandems early on and invests heavily in researching new frame designs. The focus is on using a wide variety of materials to generate the best riding characteristics. Tandems made of carbon, titanium and high quality aluminum, as well as the use of ExoGrid® technology, make Santana tandems unique. In addition, Santana tandem frames can be easily split with innovative couplings to allow space-saving transport in the car, bus, train or plane. Tandem specialist Wolfgang Haas has been selling custom tandems since 1983.
Image 1: The world's first monocoque carbon tandem! A custom carbon frame offers endless possibilities for optimizing stiffness and weight, which is why it is the preferred method for premium solo road bikes Now Santana, in collaboration with carbon specialist Criterion Composites in California, has developed a state-of-the-art, monocoque carbon tandem frame This development not only offers a stunning design and an amazingly low weight, but also leads to the most comfortable tandem ever built thanks to the special alignment of the carbon fibers The Evolve is based on Santana's open frame design with oversized bottom bracket tubes and a lower top tube This results in an overall lower frame height, so that even smaller people can easily take a seat The carbon fork with 1 ½" tapered steerer tube is flush with the integrated headset.
Image 2: The eScape Journey, Synergy and Evolve tandem models can be individually configured as a gravel tandem Equipped with a lightweight carbon fork, robust thru axles and 10-inch brake rotors from Santana, the tandem is easy to keep under control even on unpaved paths The robust wheelset with HX 531 650 B 27 5 rims from DT Swiss and high-quality Hadley hubs can be fitted with up to 47 mm wide off-road-compatible tires The tandem can optionally be fitted with a pannier rack, lowrider and mudguards, lowrider and mudguards can be added to the existing mountings The suspension seat post from Cane Creek ensures that the Stoker is even more comfortable.
Image 3: Transportation by car, train, bus or plane? No problem with a Santana tandem You want to take your tandem on vacation and are wondering how to transport it? The Santana folding tandems offer you an uncompromising and elegant solution The Santana frame is split at four couplings and can be packed in an oversize suitcase in around 30 minutes Unlike other folding tandems, a Santana folding tandem is a fully-fledged high-performance tandem The ingenious design of the frame consists of four Z couplings, an ingenious toothing at the end of the tube and the oval coupling on the down tube All you need to separate and assemble the couplings is a standard Allen key.
Image 4: Santana tandems can be optionally equipped with an electric drive. You can choose between the durable front-wheel drive from Ansmann and the lightweight add e friction roller drive. With the Ansmann drive, the battery is placed on the bottom bracket tube or lateral tube, optimizing the centre of gravity. The support is provided by a powerful electric motor in the front wheel hub. The lightweight add e drive is positioned between the chainstays behind the stoker bottom bracket and generates the thrust via contact with the tire.
