Ten bikes you should test ride!
In April, the SPEZI international specialty bike fair in Lauchringen will once again showcase the entire range of bicycle concepts that go far beyond the usual. From cargo bikes for businesses and families, to velomobiles and bicycle trailers, to folding bikes in tandem format.
At SPEZI, visitors not only have the opportunity to find out about pioneering bikes, but also to try them out. Two test tracks are available for this purpose on the exhibition grounds. We present ten bikes that are representative of the whole variety of mobility solutions of today and tomorrow.
"Pedilio" - the solar-powered velomobile
The "Pedilio" is somewhat reminiscent of an oversized Kettcar. And according to the inventors, it should provide similar riding fun thanks to the wide and individually suspended tires. The "bicycle on four wheels" is available as a pedelec and S-pedelec - the solar panel on the roof provides support for a range of up to 30 kilometers. The manufacturers have deliberately dispensed with digital networking of the driving functions in order to enable independent travel.
The "Pedilio" is designed for one person, who is protected from the weather and splashes by a cover. There is also space in the rear for shopping or crates of drinks. An exciting new addition to the transportation mix!
HP Velotechnik "Delta tx" - the comfortable chair trike with plenty of storage space
The "Delta tx" electric seat tricycle from the Hessian manufacturer HP Velotechnik has a basket at the rear, storage points for bicycle bags and a maximum load capacity of 150 kilograms. It is therefore just as suitable for shopping trips as it is for cycle tours lasting several days, especially as the bike can be dismantled into three parts for practical transportation.Â
The low entry and upright riding position are designed to ensure maximum riding comfort. Support is provided by the Shimano Steps cargo drive with fully automatic gear shifting.
Ca Go "FS 200 Life Family" - traveling safely with children
Cargo bikes are becoming increasingly popular, especially in urban areas - and rightly so. With them, you don't have to worry about parking, they are environmentally friendly and offer plenty of space for children and shopping.
According to the young German company Ca Go, it places particular emphasis on the safety concept. Children ride in a so-called safety passenger cell, and raised side walls and the external frame are designed to ensure stability. As with almost all cargo bikes, components and accessories can be configured to suit individual requirements.
Podbike "Frikar" - the velomobile with the dome for a panoramic view
What has four wheels, looks like a small hemisphere and is an e-bike? That's right, the "Frikar" from Podbike. The velomobile combines the comfort of a small car with the advantages of a bicycle. The electric drive supports up to 25 km/h and the range is up to 60 kilometers, depending on the riding style and temperature.
It offers the best aerodynamics, space for an adult and, if required, a child seat. If you want, you can equip it with windshield wipers, a trailer coupling and a fan. And when the weather is nice, you can simply take the roof off - for that real bike feeling.
Tern "Vektron" - fixed folded
Being able to transport a bike anywhere in an uncomplicated and space-saving way is practical and makes you independent, whether you're commuting every day or on vacation. Folding bikes make it possible. It is particularly convenient if the folding bike also has an electric drive, such as the "Vektron" from the Taiwanese company Tern.
It can be folded or assembled in a few seconds and adjusted to body heights between around 1.50 and 1.95 meters. The luggage rack can hold either panniers or a child seat.
Specialized "Turbo Porto" - the compact cargo bike
E-compact bikes with long pannier racks, so-called longtail bikes, with a low center of gravity and small wheels extend the wide range of cargo bikes. They provide a safe and agile riding experience, especially when loaded.
This includes the "Turbo Porto" from Specialized, which offers a maximum payload of 160 kilograms, so that both children and shopping can be chauffeured swiftly through the city. Whether uphill or heavily loaded, the drive provides plenty of thrust. Also practical: the slim dimensions of the longtail bike and the ability to adjust the bike to different body sizes in a matter of seconds.
BamBuk e-tricycle tandems - touring in a double pack
As we all know, everything is much more fun in pairs. Cycling anyway. The e-tricycle tandems from the Baden-based manufacturer BamBuk offer twice the riding pleasure. According to the manufacturer, the full-suspension models are tilt-proof and allow relaxed pedaling, even for senior citizens or people with disabilities.
The highlight: The tandems can be pushed together and can therefore be transported on special bike carriers on the car.
Bicycle trailers - towing solutions
What does it actually feel like to cycle with a bike trailer? And what models are available? You can also test the trailer ride experience at SPEZI. You can also get an idea of how versatile and flexible bike trailers are.
Do you always want the dog with you? Do you need to take your toolbox and work equipment with you? Do you want to cleverly stow your luggage for a trip across Europe lasting several months? Aidoo offers various bicycle trailers and accessories that can be configured according to your own wishes and the requirements of the bicycle (permissible total weight, pedelec, etc.).
"Super 73" - the casual adventurers
Riding around California on a motorcycle is a dream for many people. But you don't need a motorcycle or an American highway to feel free. The e-bikes from "Super 73" are visually reminiscent of motorized two-wheelers - and can even be ridden by two people.
The fat tires, the wide banana saddles and the suspension fork allow relaxed cruising on any terrain. The only thing missing is a leather jacket.
Wheeled carriage "Musketeer" - the strong one for the city
According to the manufacturer Radkutsche, the "Musketier" cargo bike model offers a wide range of transportation options, especially for urban craft businesses. You can choose from various modules for the rear loading platform. For example, the "Musketier" can be equipped with boxes or a coffee bar or set up as a rickshaw.
This means that the frames welded in Germany are designed for heavy loads - as are the other components: A maximum payload of 300 kilograms, reinforced spokes and a powerful cargo bike drive.
